DigiONE

DigiONE, a scalable federated approach to digital cancer care quality management, seeks to unravel the complexity of digital interoperability on high-quality cancer data derived from routine electronic health records. The goal is to establish a cohesive link between clinical phenotype, routine molecular data, multi-modal treatments, and pragmatic outcomes, all within local and hospital-controlled environments, operating under full federation. The primary focus is on enhancing care quality improvement, complemented by a secondary objective of facilitating protocolized research access.

Unlike traditional OMOP (Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership) conversions, which concentrate solely on structured data, DigiONE takes a pioneering stance in integrating advanced technologies. Through Natural Language Processing (NLP), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and bioinformatics solutions, we craft automated records capable of capturing essential elements from unstructured data. This includes critical factors such as performance status, biomarkers, and co-morbidities. The ultimate result is the facilitation of international risk normalization for outcomes research and various care quality improvement activities.

This project is funded and coordinated by DIGICORE, the DIGital Institute for Cancer Outcomes Research in Europe, through its Platinum Fund, awarded in 2022.
