Responsible use of Big Data
Analyzing partitioned FAIR health data responsibly
The project aims to establish a scalable technical and governance framework for combining access-restricted health "Big Data" from various entities in a privacy-preserving manner. Data from the Maastricht Study (clinical, imaging, and genotyping) and Statistics Netherlands (morbidity, healthcare utilization, mortality) will be utilized to study the relationship between type 2 diabetes, lifestyle, socioeconomic factors, and healthcare use. The project includes two main work packages: a Technical WP for developing a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data framework coupled with federated learning, and an Ethics, Law, and Society Issues (ELSI) WP to establish governance structures for responsible Big Data use in health. This initiative seeks to address challenges of data partitioning across entities and aims to inform public health guidelines. It was funded by NWA in 2017.
